Community health centers have a proud and storied history of advocacy. Since their founding in 1960s during the Civil Right and social justice movement, health center leaders have marched for equality, fought for social justice, and have been leading community activists. It’s always been clear to health centers that if they want to deliver on the promise of health, it is up to them to advocate for the health of their patients and their communities. Community health centers have a mission to serve everyone who walks through the doors, regardless of their ability to pay or their insurance status. Community health centers understand people. They fit people's lifestyles. They care for whole families. They reflect communities. They put patients at the center. They deliver quality care. They want individuals, families, children, communities, and societies to be well. Health centers embraced that notion more than twenty years ago when they formed the California Primary Care Association (CPCA) and unified behind a single statewide voice for health centers. CPCA Advocates builds on that legacy and takes a bold step into the future with an organization whose sole purpose is to advocate for community health centers and help them advance their mission through advocacy, legislation, lobbying, and meaningful engagement with elected officials and candidates running for office.
