Become an Advocate!

CPCA Advocates is building a presence in the public policy arena that can't be ignored. With more than 1,300 community health centers with over 40,000 health center staff that provide care to 1 in 5 Californians, together we can ensure that our health-care safety net remains strong and stable.

Community health centers are invaluable to our communities and our state. They not only care for over 7.8 million Californians, they also are major economic contributors. Any person, regardless of insurance status or background, is welcome at a community health center. Yet, despite being such a vital resource they are often fighting to retain support and funding for services. We invite you to learn more about the community health center in your community and learn about the wide array of work they do on behalf of all people in California such as fighting for coverage and access for all, securing more resources and access to fight the opioid epidemic, building the future health care workforce, plus much, much more.

We can’t do this alone. We need to raise our voices together to make sure we are heard and remain a priority for each of our legislators.

Grassroots Office Hours

Do you have questions about grassroots advocacy? Do you have an idea or advocacy plan that you want to brainstorm and review with someone? If so, make sure to attend grassroots office hours. We offer monthly open office hours for all members as an opportunity to drop in and discuss all things advocacy, brainstorm with others, and ask any questions you might have. Email advocacy@CPCAadvocates.org for more information and the monthly invitation.

Advocacy Center of Excellence Program

Are you interested in integrating advocacy into your community health center or are you already doing this work as an organization? If so, check out the Health Center Advocacy Network's Advocacy Center of Excellence (ACE) Program! This program provides national recognition for community health centers that prioritize advocacy in their organization and formalizes advocacy efforts for those interested in expanding in this area. Let's grow the number of California community health centers recognized as Advocacy Centers of Excellence! Reach out to advocacy@CPCAAdvocates.org for more information and support in applying for your organization to become an ACE.

Advocacy Leadership Program

For those interested in expanding their advocacy and leadership skills or finding ways to further integrate advocacy into your work, NACHC’s Advocacy Leadership Program  is a great opportunity! The Advocacy Leadership Program is an opportunity open to center staff, health center board members, and primary care association staff. This is a virtual learning experience that supports participants in building and advancing the culture of health center advocacy. If you have any questions about the Advocacy Leadership Program, contact Sarah Francois NACHC’s Deputy Director of Grassroots Advocacy at sfrancois@nachc.org.
